What
is my DukeCard Verification Code (DVC) and how do I set/change it?
· Each DukeCard uses a DukeCard Verification Code(DVC) for making purchases
over the internet and for other services where required. For those cardholders that have not specified a
DVC or would like to change their DVC, simply visit the DukeCard
Online Card Office.
What
is my DukeCard number?
· The DukeCard number is
a 9-digit number encoded on the magnetic stripe of your DukeCard.
This number allows the various card-reading systems, on campus and
in the hospital, to recognize your card. To determine your DukeCard
number, all you need to do is look at the back of your ID card. Please
note that your DukeCard number may vary depending on whether you are
a student or employee, work for the University or Medical Center or
Health System, and when your card was issued. Below are explanations
of the different card types and how to determine your DukeCard number
in each case:
Current
Campus ID Cards:
Your DukeCard number is printed just below the barcode next to the
words "DukeCard #"
.gif)
Older
Campus ID Cards(with or without AT&T calling card option):
If
there is no number below the barcode on your card, most likely the
DukeCard number is the same as your Social Security Number. For privacy
reasons, the number is not printed.

Medical
Center & Health System ID Cards:
Your
DukeCard number is a combination of three numbers on the back of your
ID card. The first, is the "card prefix", located to left of the barcode
(it should be a "9"). The second is your Unique ID number, located
just below the barcode. This number is generated internally by Duke,
and is sometimes referred to as your "employee number". The third
number, your secondary issue number (usually "0" followed by
another single digit), is located just below the DukeCard logo in
the upper right hand corner of the card. To arrive at your DukeCard
number, simply combine these numbers in the order listed above. For
the card pictured below, the DukeCard number would be "976543210".

Medical
Center Student ID:
Like the current campus ID cards, your
DukeCard number is printed just below the barcode next to the words:
"DukeCard #". Note: If you are a student who has
both a campus and a Medical Center ID you should
look on the back of your campus ID to find your DukeCard number. The
back of your Medical Center ID should
read "FOR IDENTIFICATION ONLY", as it is not an "active" card and
contains no encoded information.
